On Friday the 13th of July, the Swim 1000 team met up at the Longridge water sports and activity centre in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. This was their 2nd get together since meeting up for a spot of paddling on the thames a couple of weeks ago (see pics here). The plan for the weekend was to distribute sponsored equipment for the team to take over for the start of the journey, have a team meeting to clear up any last minute questions and most importantly, for the team to get out on the Thames behind a swimming Dave and practice any emergency drill and procedures outlined in the team meeting.
Paul Hyman from Active 360 was once again present to oversee proceedings and kindly loan SUP boards for the team to practice on. Conrad Humphreys from the Blue Mile also came along for the paddle. The swim and paddle was put in doubt thanks to the wonderful british summer we’re having, a large amount of water was flooding into the thames and Longridge were not allowed to let people out on the water without supervision. Luckily, Paul Hyman is a qualified coach and the team would be allowed to go out under his watchful eye. Everything went swimmingly in the end (excuse the pun) and the team got some much needed experience of following Dave as he swims down a large river.
